In the year 2023, Man had developed the technology to travel the stars. In a limited sense. It could take a population of carefully chosen individuals (scientists, soldiers, and otherwise fertile human beings) to the planet, named Marxis, and start a new colony. It was a one time trip, as the planet was outside the Sol system, so the resources were allocated for such a project. From then on, the population of Marxis would be researching the planet's ecosystems, search for resources to exploit, and research technologies to colonize the worlds around them to help benefit the home population on Earth.
In 2029, Earth had fallen into chaos and war. Contact between Earth and Marxis was lost a year later, and, as time went on, Marxis eventually forgot about Earth.
Now it's 2276, the colony of Marxis has established mining colonies on several of the planets in it's system. Now they venture to the Sol System, which is said to be ripe with resources. But when they enter the system, they rediscover something from their past.
Earth. Now, after Earth's rediscovery, large groups of scientist-soldiers have been gathered to establish various colonies on several of the continents in order to see what happened to the planet, collect any samples they can think of, and see if there is still a sentient population.
After three months on the planet, the new Colonies have been set up successfully, but there is resistance among some of the population. Many Settlers help support the Colonists, mainly their science teams sent out to either observe them or to help them with new tech. Though there are some Settlers and plenty of Marauders who hate the new Colonists, and choose to oppose them. The Wanderers don't really care. They come from all backgrounds, so their opinions vary.
Still, unprepared for the massive beasts and the resistance of the populace, the Colonies have decided to stop Marxis from landing more colonies on the planet until the existing ones manage to explore and catalog most everything on the planet.
It's been nine months after the Colonies have landed now. Skirmishes break out among the Marauders and the Colonists, some colonies have auto-defenses, and Wanderers mingle with the Colonists and Settlers.
Welcome to Earth. I'd say you'd be able to survive the harsh environments, but... Well, that's up to the world, isn't it?
