BEASTIARY
Polgai
Polgai
Named as such after the man who first discovered their species, the Polgai Raptors, or Polgai for short, thrive in cold areas, and can easily outrun a Frost Raptor. They are covered in soft fur to keep them warm, their maws almost beak-like.
Easily domesticated, these are very popular mounts in Scandinavia and former Russia. There are also some Polgai around the rest of the world. Unlike normal raptors, their heads are larger and flatter than an average raptor, and they lack fur.

Horndogs
Horndogs, commonly referred to as 'Bugs,' are swarm monsters. Reaching five feet tall when standing on its hind legs, this monster is a carnivorous beast with an insatiable hunger for flesh (preferrably human). If a Bug is in sight, you can be damn sure at least ten more are hiding somewhere, waiting to ambush you.
Despite their rabid, violent behavior, Horndogs are very smart, and can come up with elaborate tactics in order to catch their prey, being very proficient at doing the pincer maneuver, and at flanking their prey.
Skitters
Skitters are a semi-sentient humanoid insect species that have evolved on Earth for the past hundred years. They operate like a hive mind would, though they have no discernible "queen" that gives them orders. Instead, they move around, killing any human they come across.
Though they refrain from killing children, strangely enough. Instead, they capture them and attach a parasite to their backs, using them for slave labor. But sometimes the kids disappear, and there are more skitters than before. It's believed that Skitters are capturing kids to make more Skitters, but many say this is an urban legend.
Like Bigfoot.
Sasquatch
Well... this is awkward.
While the Sasquatch species was in small, small numbers pre-Collapse, their population has since boomed, and has become a dangerous threat to... well, anything. Since they're omnivores, parties of Sasquatches will often pick an area dry before moving on. Their considered a 'blight', and many Settlements will handsomely reward someone, be they Marauder, Wanderer, Colonist, anyone, who manages to take down a Sasquatch party.
Though this is not easily done. Sasquatches are powerful and semi-intelligent opponents, able to recognize human speech and plan accordingly. While they don't know how to use firearms, they will often be seen wielding old pipes and other bludgeoning tools.
Brute
Brutes are massive, hulking abominations, once humans, that live in swamps. During a walk through the swamp, or merely a shortcut through it, these humans have been swallowed by the swamplands, and transformed into these eight to ten foot tall abominations. Robbed of their intelligence, which has been replaced by a mysterious rage, these creatures cannot be reasoned with, and will attack on sight.
Legfish
Legfish, an omnivorous and amphibious humanoid creature that show a semblance of sentience and, according to observations by Colonists, are evolving, quickly. They are most commonly found in the Great Lakes of North America, though they can be found elsewhere in the old United States, most commonly around rivers, often forming nomadic tribes. While they do have a history of attacking humans, being attacked by a Legfish is as likely as being struck by lightning before the Collapse, and all attacks on humans by Legfish are, more often than not, a case of self-defense. More often than not, Legfish are known for leading lost humans back on to well traveled roads or back to their settlements, if close to them. Otherwise, Legfish will point them in the direction of a settlement that is along the river. If the lost human is a child, then they will either accompany them to their settlement or take care of them until a search party finds them.
More often than not, there are stories of Legfish adopting lost, abandoned, or orphaned children and raising them as their own, but no evidence has been gathered of such behavior as of yet.
Needless to say, if you're lost and you find a Legfish tribe, then you're in good hands.
